The BATHGATE Family
The Bathgate family started out as Agricultural workers in East Lothian in Scotland. In the 1830's Robert BATHGATE left to work in a Brewery in Edinburgh and there he married Jane HARDIE in 1840. Their youngest son George worked for the railways and by the late 1880's was working in Fife. It was here that he married Jemima JOHNSTON from a local Balmerino family.
George and Jemima's son Thomas married Lizzie KIDD from Dundee. Her mother was a CAMPBELL from Dull in Perthshire.
Tracing these families back from the 20th Century we have links with the surnames HARDIE, SCRIMGEOUR, MENZIES, CAMPBELL, Mac FARLANE, ROBERTSON, CAMERON, FOULIS, GLADSTONE, HENDERSON, ROLLO, KIRK, MURRAY and SCOTT amongst others.
